What operating systems can EntelliCache reside on?

Will I need additional hardware to run the EntelliCache application server?
This answer depends on your environment. EntelliCache can run on the same server as your Business Intelligence application server or it can be installed on an additional server and accessed over a TCP channel if your Business Intelligence server becomes too busy.
Does EntelliCache build and manage the data cache?
EntelliCache does not build or manage the data cache. EntelliCache is “data cache aware” and will utilize that data cache whenever possible. Most environments will build a data cache at the end of an ETL process. EntelliCache simply needs to know where the cache came from, what it contains and where it is located. This is accomplished by using the EntelliCache Data Cache Manager utility to describe your data cache to the EntelliCache application server. EntelliCache also saves statistics from every query executed for future data cache performance tuning reasons.
